Momentan beschäftigt sie sich vorrangig mit der Analyse von Diskursen in sozialen Medien sowie der Informationsextraktion aus wissenschaftlichen Publikationen. Katarinas Forschungsinteressen liegen im Bereich Natural Language Processing und Text Mining und der Entwicklung von KI-basierten Ansätzen für sozialwissenschaftliche Fragestellungen. Aktuell ist sie Teil der Zukunftsgruppe DiscourseData4Policy der Universität Düsseldorf, die sich mit KI-basiertem Verstehen von Online Solidaritäts-Diskursen für evidenzbasierter Politikgestaltung Für das EU-Projekt OpenMinted half sie kurzzeitig bei der Schaffung einer Infrastruktur für den Einsatz von Text und Data Mining Technologien auf wissenschaftlichen Publikationen. In diesem Kontext wirkte sie an den DFG-Projekten InFoLiS und ScienceLinker mit und arbeitete an der GESIS LOD-Infrastruktur. Katarinas Fokus lag zunächst auf dem Verlinken und Anreichern von Linked Data in den Sozialwissenschaften, darunter die automatische Integration von Forschungsdaten und Literatur. Zuvor hat sie ihren Magister in Computerlinguistik, Informatik und Psychologie an der Universität Heidelberg erworben. Katarina Boland ist seit August 2011 als Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin in der Abteilung "Wissenstechnologien für Sozialwissenschaften" im Team "Data Linking" tätig.
